“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” -Nelson Mandela

Nothing is as overwhelming as fighting your darkest fears, when all the possible rays of hope seem to have faded away. Victory is bound to find its way towards you when you fight with every inch of strength left in you. Nobody understands this sentiment better than the flamboyant Yuvraj Singh, who won his battle against a rare form of cancer called seminoma like a true warrior.

Yuvraj is not an extraordinary person to have survived and tackled his crisis, he is simply a normal person like you and me with extraordinary courage. The courage that he didn’t let go off throughout his ordeal. Through his triumph over cancer, he has set a perfect example for all his fans, teaching them that no thing is unachievable if you are determined to acquire it.

The not so good news came to him soon after he celebrated the Indian victory at the 2011 World Cup, wherein he was also awarded ‘the man of the tournament.’ He went through the usual phases each person experiences when faced with a dilemma; denial, acceptance and tackling it. While throwing light on his experience, Yuvraj said, “There were times when chemo would eat my body but I told myself that I have the strength and courage to win and come out stronger. I thought I’d go back and play for India.” Sure he did, and how! scoring a double century during the T20 World Cup.

We all need is that extra push. That extra something which makes difficulty a worthy and learning experience. For Yuvraj it was Lance Armstrong’s book ‘It’s Not About The Bike.” It was this that kept him going and the support of his family, friends and fans. So let us look up to Yuvraj’s struggle in times of despair, and keep faith in ourselves, in our strength.
