Unable to repay loan, three of a family committed suicide by jumping into the Krishna in Yadur in Belagavi district. Two of the bodies were found on Sunday.

Ashok Ramkrishna Kamble (70), his wife, Nirmala (60) and their son Arun (40) jumped into the river that flows near their village of Yadur. The bodies of Ashok and Arun were found floating in the river near Kallol village. Nirmala’s body is yet to be found.

Ashok had taken a loan of Rs. 4.7 lakh from cooperative societies, banks and private moneylenders for his daughter’s marriage. He and his son Arun were unable to pay the loan on time. Debtors were pestering them for the last one year. Their problems escalated as they had no land or house to sell, a police officer said. The police said that the three were missing from their village for four days. Ashok was a landless labour and his wife was a home-maker. Their son was doing some petty business that might have suffered some losses, the police said.
